We're closing up shop. Richard Branson's famous space company Virgin Orbit is down 75%
Few topics are as popular as space conquest. We're lucky enough to be living in a time when I'm really just one step away from a big breakthrough. But one of the biggest players has shown that even such an interesting industry doesn't always have a bed of roses.

I don't think this bet worked out for Branson.
What is Virgin Orbit anyway?
Virgin Orbit $VORB is an American space company founded in 2017. It is a subsidiary of the Virgin Group, which is owned by British businessman Sir Richard Branson. Virgin Orbit's main goal is to provide access to orbit for satellites and other space payloads using mobile space shuttles.
The company uses the LauncherOne shuttle, which is attached to a Boeing 747 aircraft, to launch satellites into orbit. This launch method helps reduce the cost of space missions and allows faster and more flexible access to orbit. Virgin Orbit is one of many projects Sir Richard Branson is involved in as part of his travel and technology business. The company is focused on innovation in spaceflight and has ambitious plans for further expansion and development of its business. Only, like Branson's other projects - it's pretty risky.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=otmjA8IcWfEA few weeks after a failed attempt to launch a payload from British soil, a major milestone for the satellite deployment startup, the company is running out of money. As a result, it will have to lay off 675 employees, or roughly 85%.
The layoffs will reportedly be made to reduce expenses in light of the company's inability to secure meaningful funding, according to a statement to the Securities and Exchange Commission on Thursday.
Shares of Virgin Orbit, which first went public in August 2021 with a valuation of nearly $4 billion, halved on Friday and have written down nearly 75% in the past five days.

Branson, who is best known for founding Virgin Records and Virgin Atlantic, controls a vast empire of businesses more diverse than Elon Musk's. Recently, however, his ambitious gambles have not paid off.
